Iran's 'Final Solution' - war by proxy - and why it failed.

“Turn to me and be saved,
    all you ends of the earth;
for I am God, and there is no other.
23
By myself I have sworn,
my mouth has uttered in all integrity
a word that will not be revoked:
Before me every knee will bow;
by me every tongue will swear.
24
They will say of me, ‘In the Lord alone
    are deliverance and strength.’”
All who have raged against him
will come to him and be put to shame.
25
But all the descendants of Israel
will find deliverance in the Lord
and will make their boast in him.

Isaiah 45: 2-25

For followers of the Twelver sect of Shiite Islam, such as the ayatollahs of Iran, the existence of a Jewish State on what they regard as 'Muslim soil' is an abomination and a hindrance preventing the return of the Mahdi.

The Mahdi is a kind of a messiah figure who is the twelfth imam, currently in 'occultation' (secret seclusion), who according to Shiite eschatology will emerge in the end times to bring about justice and peace in a world overwhelmed by oppression and corruption, and to establish global Islamic rule.

The Mahdi will precede the coming of the Prophet Issa (Jesus) who will rule the world either with the Mahdi or alone (opinions vary).

According to the Hadiths (the collected sayings of Mohammed) the "last hour will not come unless the Muslims fight against the Jews, and the Muslims would kill them..." (Sahih Muslim 41:6985, also Sahih al-Bukhari 4:56:791).

Clearly, according to these beliefs, the Jews must be conquered and eradicated. The existence of the Jewish State, Israel, is anathema and must be destroyed.

The current Ayatollah, Ali Hosseini Khamenei, sees himself as the forerunner preparing the way for the reappearance of the Mahdi. He believes he has a divinely sanctioned imperative to destroy Israel, and he formulated a brilliant plan to do just that, his 'final solution', a war to end all wars, opening the way for the Mahdi.

To this end, Khamenei patiently, over a period of at least 30 years, prepared his battle plan, moving his 'chess pieces' into place for a war by proxy. He 'groomed' various terror groups and Shiite entities to go to war against Israel, providing funding, weapons and training. According to his master plan these proxies would carry out a massive, simultaneous invasion of Israel, while he backed them with thousands of missiles, drones and at least 10 nuclear bombs.

Hezbollah in Lebanon, perhaps the strongest of the proxies, had around 150,000 rockets, ballistic missiles, as well as hundreds of drones, and thousands of rocket propelled grenades (RPGs) and other smaller munitions. Hezbollah also had a sophisticated army of Iranian (IRGS)-trained soldiers numbering approximately 20,000 full-time soldiers, and an equivalent number of reservists.

Hamas, though Sunni, joined with Iran in order to fulfill its desire to eliminate Israel and the Jewish people. Before October 7, 2023, Hamas and the other terror groups in Gaza, had around 50,000 operatives, about 30,000 medium and short-range rockets capable of hitting almost every part of Israel, in addition to many thousands of RPGs and mortars and other short-range weapons, hidden in at least 200 km of underground tunnels and command centers, and protected by civilian 'human shields' above.

The Houthis in Yemen were, and still are, being continually supplied by Iran with sophisticated, long-range ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and drones, all capable of hitting Israel.

Iraq had ready an invasion army of around 50,000 soldiers.

Iran has close to 1 million military personnel. It also had a massive arsenal of around 2,000 - 4,000 (estimates vary) ballistic and cruise missiles capable of reaching Israel and was busy manufacturing more, aiming to reach a total stockpile of at least 8,000. It also had thousands of UAVs (weaponized drones). It was also furiously enriching uranium in order to produce nuclear warheads. At the outbreak of the war it was estimated that it could make, within weeks, around 10 nuclear bombs with the 600kg of enriched uranium it had already made.

Had all these 'armies' attacked Israel simultaneously in surprise, according to the master plan, Israel would have been quickly overwhelmed, outnumbered and outgunned. Most Israelis would have been killed or captured, and the State of Israel pushed into the sea - 'from the River to the Sea'. This would have been genocide on a grand scale. So what went wrong?

On October 7, 2023 Hamas and other Gazan terror groups, together with many 'civilians' stormed the Israeli border communities killing around 1200 and taking 251 as hostages. At the same time, thousands of rockets were fired into Israel. Although caught by surprise, many IDF personnel, police and armed civilians sprang into action and somehow managed to prevent a much greater disaster. Hamas had planned to reach Tel Aviv, capture the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, capture military bases and installations, and destroy or capture the nuclear reactor at Dimona. They expected Iran and the other proxies to join their attack. But they did not. Iran sat back. Hezbollah the next day began firing rockets into Israel, but didn't invade, nor did Iraq, and the Houthis did not join until much later. Why?

I do not know the official explanation, if there is one. I have heard a theory that Hamas 'went off half-cocked' before the others were ready because of leaked information about the existence of the booby trapped communication devices that later decimated the leadership of Hezbollah. I have also heard that Iraq failed to receive the go-head from Tehran. Perhaps because the communication network failed for some reason.

I do know that since the October 7 invasion and massacre, Israel has fought back with courage, determination and has devastated the enemy forces. Much of this amazing success can be attributed to our incredible air force, its coordination with the superb ground forces, and our technological superiority both in terms of intelligence but also in the field of battle. Our military personnel have shown exemplary courage, resilience and skill in battle. Not only that, they know they are fighting a battle for our very survival as a nation, and the survival of their own loved ones. This is a big advantage in warfare.

We also have another big advantage - the most important. Yahweh, the God of Israel is fighting on our side. It is the only explanation for our overwhelming success so far. If I hadn't already believed in God before the war, I would now. We have witnessed so many things that could only have occurred by divine intervention.

Hamas and its allies in Gaza alone have fired 19,000 rockets at Israel, and Hezbollah approximately 3,000 from Lebanon. Iran has fired around 700 ballistic and cruise missiles, and an unknown number of UAVs at Israel, and the Houthis 52 missiles and many drones. Some of these failed en route or were intercepted by Israel's defense systems, and those of her allies. Only a few reached Israel and, though there have been casualties, mostly civilian, the number is far, far fewer than one might expect given the intensity of the barrages and the potential destructive power of the missiles. Even the one missile that impacted Ben Gurion Airport somehow 'contrived' to fall in the only open space there and caused only a few minor injuries. This is just one of the many, many such miracles we have seen, not to mention the many we may not have seen nor recognized.

It seems that God has been supernaturally protecting Israel. He has allowed us to suffer to some extent in an effort to cause us to repent of our sins and return to him, but he has been great in his mercy, not because we deserve it in any way, but because we are still his chosen people, called by his name, Israel (which means he who struggles with God). God does not fail to fulfil his promises and his prophetic word. Israel still has a role to play in God's redemption plan. He will not allow our enemies to overcome us. The Mahdi will not come (unless he is the Antichrist) and Islam and Allah will be shown to be a false deception. All the world will see and recognize Jesus and bow down to him. It is Jesus who will bring in a millennium of world peace and he will reign the whole earth with his saints from Jerusalem. It is the God of Israel who will bring down the new heaven and the new earth as described in the Book of Revelation.

So what now? Our enemies have been weakened and wounded, the Iranian master plan is shattered, and as I write U.S. President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu are meeting in Washington D.C. to discuss Trump's vision of the Abraham Accords and peace in the Middle East.

Can there be peace in the Middle East? Perhaps for a time, but our enemies are still alive, still have a large arsenal of weapons and still believe that Israel must be destroyed so that the end times era of 'peace' under Islam can be ushered in. Surrender to the infidels, Jews and Christian, is unthinkable, as is the concept of defeat or failure in a shame-based society. They may make deals, negotiate 'peace' but only to give themselves time to regroup and rearm so that they can attack again.

Shiites teach and practice the principle of Taqiyyah. For them Taqiyyah means 'the religious obligation to conceal the truth and not showing openly that which may lead to negative consequences in religious or worldly terms'. In other words, it is not only permissible but obligatory to lie to the enemy, make false declarations or false agreements or treaties, if it is advantageous in terms of their ultimate goal of global jihad.

This is something Western leaders do not seem to understand. Negotiated treaties and deals made with Shia jihadist entities are not worth the paper they are written on. For Shia jihadists a ceasefire can only be temporary, and peace with the 'infidel' unthinkable. I fear for the gullible West. It is a huge mistake to  think that jihadis value life and peace as we do. They value death, martyrdom and war above peace, as long as jihad is incomplete. Their sole overriding goal is world domination and the subjection of all mankind to Islam.

Iran, even after its humiliating defeat in the recent 12-day war with Israel, declared 'victory' and is still openly declaring its intention not only to destroy the 'little Satan', Israel, but also the 'big Satan', America and the rest of the 'corrupt and infidel West'.

Iran may be 'down' but it is not yet defeated. A wounded lion is a dangerous beast. Iran still has a sizeable arsenal and reports vary about the degree of damage done to Iran's nuclear program. Around 600kg of enriched uranium is still 'missing'. Russia and China have promised to help them restock their arsenal and repair their damaged military sites and factories.

Hezbollah is not only refusing to disarm as required by the Lebanon ceasefire agreement, it is actively rearming and regrouping.

The Houthis are still firing missiles at Israel on an almost daily basis.

Estimates are that though the Hamas military apparatus is dismantled, and perhaps 90% of its leadership killed, there are still around 50,000 Hamas operatives carrying out a guerilla-style war against the IDF, and rockets are still sporadically being fired into Israel. Hamas still holds 50 Israeli hostages, 20 of whom are believed to be still alive.

The war is far from over, and a true, lasting peace will only come when the true Messiah, Yeshua (Jesus), returns.

APOCALYPSE NOW?

Apocalypse is one of those words that has changed its meaning in modern times due to its usage in popular films, books and in the media. It has come to mean a total, devastating, world destroying war such as those prophesied in the Bible, especially in the Book of Revelation (which in Greek is the Book of the Apocalypse). The meaning of 'apocalypse' in Greek however is simply 'revelation' or 'unveiling'.  The Book of Revelation is the prophetic account of the end-times revelation of Yeshua (Jesus) culminating in his second coming as conquering king.

Joel Rosenberg, in a recent interview with Janet Parshall on Moody Radio, claimed that "we are facing an apocalyptic war" and said that God is "shaking Israel" (1).

Rosenberg was referring to the current situation Israel is facing in the north in which Hezbollah is firing rockets, missiles and suicide drones into Israeli territory and communities, a situation that is escalating daily. Since Hezbollah began attacking Israel on 8th of October it has fired at least 5,000 rockets, missiles and armed drones into Israel forcing the evacuation of around 80,000 of the inhabitants of the border regions. These people have left their homes, farms and businesses and have been living for over 8 months now in hotels or rented apartments at the government's expense, and they have no idea when they will be able to return. At least 1000 homes have been destroyed or seriously damaged.

                                https://allisrael.com/

Although most residents have left these northern settlements there remain two groups of people. The police, first responders, fire fighters, volunteer 'home guards', and those maintaining essential infrastructure and services are one group, but the other comprises many elderly who prefer to 'die in their own homes' and those families whose financial resources are insufficient to enable them to relocate (even with government help). Most of these are living in bomb shelters and surviving on food brought in by various volunteer organizations.

THE MINISTRY OF THE KIRYAT SHMONA CONGREGATION

One of those volunteer organizations is the Messianic Congregation of Kiryat Shmona. Most of the 23,000 residents of this northern city were evacuated and the members of the congregation relocated to Poriya, near Tiberias. Some however remained, or travel each day, to cook between 500 -1250 hot meals every day for soldiers and others who are still in the area.

On the 24th of May, a rocket fired by Hezbollah in Lebanon landed just outside their newly acquired premises, causing considerable damage. All the workers had already gone home for the day, and there were no injuries. Straight away these brave people began to clear up the mess, and even before repairs were begun, they were back in production.  You can see and hear more about this amazing ministry in the video link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0omb6UzBCcQ

THE NORTH IS BURNING

We are experiencing a hotter than normal summer this year. In the intense summer heat the vegetation is tinder dry and even a small, red-hot piece of shrapnel from an intercepted rocket can ignite a fire. Many fires are burning every day, and an estimated 20,000 acres of beautiful oak forest and Mediterranean shrubland, much of it in national parks, have already burned. Orchards and farmland have also been burned and homes threatened by fire.  One farmer lost his entire summer grazing land for his 1000 head of cattle. Another lost thousands of chickens when his farm was hit by a missile this week. Yesterday (29/06) a missile killed a horse and its foal belonging to a 14-yr-old girl. This situation cannot continue, and no nation should have to tolerate it.

Until now both Hezbollah and Israel have been operating on a kind of 'tit for tat' policy, but the kind and intensity of attacks is escalating daily. Israel has been trying to keep the north 'on hold' while it concentrates its efforts in Gaza.

THE IDF CONTINUES TO FIGHT IN GAZA

Yesterday (24 June) the IDF announced that its operation in Rafiah (in southern Gaza) was essentially complete and the remaining Hamas militants there can no longer operate as a coordinated army.  This means that Israel can now scale down the fighting in Gaza, but it does not yet mean the end of the war there. There are still many groups of Hamas fighters continuing a guerilla-type war, popping up from hiding places and attacking Israeli forces, and booby trapping roads and buildings. Hamas operatives are still managing from time to time to fire rockets and missiles into Israeli territory from Gaza. The IDF is continuing to search for and destroy these isolated groups of fighters and the tunnels and ordnance remaining. This process will probably continue for some months.

There are even reports (2) that Hamas is attempting to recruit and train 16-18 year old boys to replace the approximately 14,000 terrorists that Israel has eliminated so far, the 4000 captives and the many more who have been wounded.

120 HOSTAGES REMAIN IN GAZA

We are all hoping and praying that the remaining 120 Israeli hostages held in Gaza can be rescued somehow. It is estimated that only around 50-60 of these remain alive, but it is important for the families, and for national conscience, to rescue all the living hostages and return the dead bodies for proper burial. The fear is that, as the IDF closes in, Hamas may simply kill the remaining hostages, or that they will be accidentally killed by our forces.

As each day passes, the physical and mental condition of the hostages is deteriorating. They are being held in inhumane conditions, with little food, no medicine, poor hygiene, and no access to fresh air and sunshine. As we have learned from those hostages rescued they are being  physically, sexually and emotionally abused, and some are being held in family homes where they are essentially treated as slaves. It is believed that some of the women, raped by Hamas terrorists, are now pregnant, and as we approach the 9th month since they were captured, their babies may be born soon.

HEZBOLLAH AND THE NORTH

As things are 'winding down' in Gaza our attention is shifting to the northern border situation which is reaching flashpoint. A full scale war with Hezbollah seems imminent. Months of negotiations have failed. Hezbollah is scaling up the number, kind and sophistication of weapons being used against us. It is also attacking deeper and deeper into Israeli territory.

One day last week they published drone footage demonstrating that they know the location of sensitive military bases and sites, and civilian infrastructure such as power stations, desalination plants, factories etc. They threaten to attack Israel's ports and airports, our offshore gas rig, the Dimona nuclear plant, the ammonia storage plant near Haifa,  and other critical military and civilian installations. They boast that they have 150,000 missiles that can reach any target in Israel, even as far as Eilat, with pinpoint accuracy.

A few days ago Hezbollah leader, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah delivered his first public speech since October 7. I have not been able to find a full translation of his speech but he devoted a large part of his one and a half hour speech to warning Israel of the consequences should we attack. He also for the first time threatened another country, Cyprus, should Israeli military forces to use the British Airforce bases on that island. Cyprus is an EU member and any attack on it would therefore draw the entire European Union into the war.

The Iranian delegation to the United Nations threatened Israel with a "war of annihilation" if it attacked Lebanon, and stated that "Despite the fact that Iran sees Israel's propaganda about its intention to attack Lebanon as psychological warfare, if it launches a full-scale military attack, a war of annihilation will begin. All options, including the full involvement of all resistance fronts, are on the table.” The 'resistance fronts' referred to here include not only Hamas and Hezbollah but the Houthis in Yemen, the Iranian backed militias in Iraq and Syria, and of course Iran itself. I have also seen videos of Afghani and Pakistani fighters arriving in Lebanon to booster the Hezbollah forces, but Hezbollah denies this.

It is believed that Hezbollah can muster around 100,000 ground troops and has a massive arsenal of at least 150,000 rockets, missiles and unmanned aircraft all aimed at Israel. In addition Iran has cruise and ballistic missiles, and possibly even some nuclear warheads.

Today, Israel's Foreign Minister, Israel Katz responded by saying, "Iran threatens to destroy Israel if we fully respond to Hezbollah's attacks from Lebanon. My response to Iran is clear:

1. If Hezbollah does not cease fire and withdraw from southern Lebanon, we will act with full force until security is restored and residents can return home.

2. A regime that threatens destruction deserves to be destroyed."

As the rhetoric heats up and last minute attempts at negotiation are held, many governments are advising their citizens to leave Lebanon. France has already begun evacuating their citizens and it is estimated that there are around 23,000 French citizens in Lebanon. Canada has 45,000 citizens in Lebanon and the USA at least 5,000.  These figures include bi-nationals, not all of whom will wish to leave, but even so, the evacuation of those who do is a massive undertaking. The US has already chartered a Greek cruise liner to evacuate its citizens.

Here in Israel war preparations are well advanced. Soldiers are training to fight on the very rugged and heavily wooded terrain of the northern border area, a very different situation to the mainly, flat, barren landscape of Gaza. On the Home Front we are being told to prepare our shelters, our 'grab bags' and our emergency supplies.

In the opening days of all out war with Hezbollah we can expect to be hit with thousands of missiles every day. This will overwhelm our defense systems and we can expect extensive damage to infrastructure (especially to electricity and water). Hospitals are preparing to receive thousands of both military and civilian casualties. The food industry is stocking up massive food warehouses and fortifying some supermarkets which will remain open 24/7 if needed. They are also checking the 'combat ration' packs which contain enough for a family for 3 days, and will be distributed to households if needed.

We ordinary inhabitants of Israel are all waiting with baited breath to see what will happen. Although we hope for a negotiated settlement, few believe it can happen. All sides claim they don't want a war, but Hezbollah also doesn't want to stop firing missiles at us, and Israel can no longer tolerate the situation in which 80,000 of its citizens cannot return to their homes. Something has to be done. There is no doubt that Iran means what it says and a war with Hezbollah may well escalate to a regional, if not world-wide, war of apocalyptic scale.

Israel however has a secret weapon. We are backed by the LORD God of Israel, and He has promised that no weapon formed against us will prosper (Isaiah 54:17), and the prophet Micah said,

But now many nations
    are gathered against you.
They say, “Let her be defiled,
let our eyes gloat over Zion!”
12
But they do not know
    the thoughts of the Lord;
they do not understand his plan,
that he has gathered them like sheaves to the threshing floor.
13
“Rise and thresh, Daughter Zion,
    for I will give you horns of iron;
I will give you hooves of bronze,
and you will break to pieces many nations.”

Micah 4 : 11-13

 IRAN ATTACKS ISRAEL

Though the mountains be shaken
    and the hills be removed,
yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken
nor my covenant of peace be removed,”
says the Lord, who has compassion on you...

If anyone does attack you, it will not be my doing;
whoever attacks you will surrender to you...

no weapon forged against you will prevail,
and you will refute every tongue that accuses you.

This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord,
and this is their vindication from me,”
declares the Lord.

Isaiah 54: 10,15, 17

On Saturday night (13/04/24), at  11:23 PM Israel time, we received this message:

🔅ATTACK ALERT -

🚨DRONE LAUNCH IRAN - Multiple sources state from US officials, “dozens of suicide drone launches from Iran headed towards Israel”.  50-100+ drones depending on report.  IDF confirms.

Continued launching - may be more.

🚨DRONE LAUNCH YEMEN - Unofficial at the moment.

⚠️ TIMING from Iran - Early morning

Hypersonic Cruise missile - 10 minutes

Cruise missile - < 1 hour

Ballistic missile - 4 hours

Suicide Drone/UAV - 6-9+ hours

The different types will be launched to arrive together.

On the way, they have to pass at least 4 defense systems, starting with warships, Patriot systems stationed in Saudi Arabia, Jordan and American bases in the Middle East, Israeli defense systems and Israeli fighter jets.

BUT, expect to hear about additional launches from Syria and Yemen, and Lebanon.

⚠️EL AL THAILAND FIGHTS - returning to Thailand due to Jordan airspace closure.

⚠️GPS JAMMING - expect nationwide GPS jamming immediately.

⚠️AIRSPACE YEMEN - closed.

At around 2:00 AM, Sunday morning, the first drones and missiles began arriving in Israel. Sirens sounded throughout the country and citizens headed for shelter, if they hadn't already done so.

The sirens did not go off in my town, but I had my alert set for Jerusalem too, and therefore I heard the sirens and the sound of distant booms of exploding ordnance. I turned on the TV to see drones passing over the Temple Mount and the interceptions. You can see the video of this on X with this link: https://twitter.com/i/status/1779292077886460213

or on this link: https://www.timesofisrael.com/iran-launches-wave-of-drones-at-israel-in-first-ever-direct-attack-idf-braces-to-intercept/

I followed events on the TV until about 3:30 AM when things seemed to have settled down. I managed a few hours sleep after that.

The next morning, Sunday, at 9:08 AM we received the following situational update.

OPERATIONAL UPDATE BY IDF SPOKESPERSON, REAR ADMIRAL DANIEL HAGARI, REGARDING THE SUCCESSFUL DEFENSE OF ISRAEL'S AIRSPACE OVERNIGHT

Last night, Iran initiated an attack against Israel, launching over 300 threats of various types. The Iranian threat met the aerial and technological superiority of the IDF, along with a strong fighting coalition - which together intercepted the overwhelming majority of the threats. 99% of the threats launched towards Israeli territory were intercepted - a very significant strategic achievement.

Of approximately 170 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) that Iran launched, zero crossed into Israeli territory. Dozens of them were intercepted by Israeli Air Force fighter jets, our Aerial Defense Array, and the aerial defense systems and aircraft of our partners.

From the more than 30 cruise missiles Iran launched, none crossed into Israeli territory. 25 of them were intercepted by IAF fighter jets outside the country’s borders. Out of over 120 ballistic missiles, only a few crossed into Israeli territory, with the rest being intercepted. These fell at the Nevatim Air Force Base, causing only minor damage to infrastructure. As you can see, the base is operational and continues to carry out its missions....

Iran hoped to incapacitate the base and thus impair our aerial capabilities, but it failed. IAF aircraft continue to take off and land from the base and depart for offensive and defensive missions. This includes the ‘Adir’ fighter jets, which are now returning to the base from an aerial defense mission...

In addition to the launches from Iran, several launches were made from the territories of Iraq and Yemen. None of them crossed into Israeli territory. In recent hours, dozens of rockets were fired from Lebanese territory toward the north (of Israel); there were no casualties. Fighter jets struck Hezbollah targets across Lebanon, including Radwan targets. All this while additional aircraft continue their defense missions.

Over the past six months, we have been operating in close coordination with our partners, led by US CENTCOM, the UK, France, and other countries (Jordan, UAE, and Saudi Arabia!)that operated last night. This partnership has always been robust, but last night it was exceptionally evident. Last night we conducted a complex defensive air battle, with excellent performance by the IAF and the Intelligence Directorate. The battle was directed under the command of the Chief of the General Staff from the Israeli Air Force Operations Center.

The interception capabilities of the Aerial Defense Array and the defensive abilities of the IAF aircraft, demonstrated exceptional professionalism as well as the IDF’s military and technological superiority. Thanks to all of this, the attack by Iran - was thwarted.

Unfortunately, a ten-year-old girl (actually a 7-yr old, Israeli Bedouin Arab) was severely injured by shrapnel. We wish her a speedy recovery. Other than her, as far as we know, there are no additional casualties.

However, it is important to say - the event is not over....

Now two days later, the enormity of what happened in the early hours of Sunday are just beginning to sink in. I believe we saw a miracle of God's protection, equivalent to the parting of the Red Sea. Israel and its allies, the US, UK, France, Jordan and Saudi Arabia, shot down 99% of the 300 or so UAVs, Ballistic Missiles and Cruise Missiles fired at Israel. Such a high success rate is unheard of. In past conflicts we have seen at best only about an 85% success. When you consider all the things that can go wrong, a 99% success rate is close to impossible. A Professor in the Defense Industry made this claim (even he compared it to the dividing of the Red Sea!):

"I wanted to share something that is much more than a feeling.  Something that comes from a real calculation:  What happened in Israel on last Motzai Shabbat (Sat/Sun night) was not less than the scale of the splitting of the Red Sea.

I am a Professor of physics and I worked for several years in the defense industry in Israel, in projects that are still the cutting edge technologies of the defense of the State of Israel. When I look at what happened on Motzai Shabbat, on a scientific level - it simply cannot happen!! Statistically.

The likelihood that everything, but really Everything works out, does not exist in complex systems  Like the defense systems that were used to defend Israel from the massive Iranian attack.

These systems have never, but never, not only in the State of Israel, been tried in real time!!

I took a pencil and dived into the calculations to check the statistic probability that such a result would materialize.

The large number of events that had to be handled, when each missile or UAV is handled independently (that is, human error or some deviation of one operation, is not offset by other successful operations), compounds the chance of making a mistake.

With all the high technologies, a breach was expected  In the defense of the skies of the State of Israel.

Even if we got 90% protection it would have been a miracle!!

What happened is that everyone, but everyone - the pilots, the systems operators and the technology operators acted as one man, at one moment in total unity.  If this is not an act of G-d, then I no longer know what a miracle is.

It is Greater than the victory of the Six Day War or the War of Independence.  Those wars can also be explained through natural events.

BUT

The rescue that took place for the people of Israel on Motzai Shabbat  is simply impossible naturally.  I believe that this miracle saved the lives of many people from Israel.

If the defense system had failed to intercept a number of cruise missiles, the result would have dragged us into a very complex war.

I wouldn't bet that next time it will work like this without Divine supervision.

The simple proof of what I said is that the managers of the defense industries, who develop and manufacture these systems guarantee no more than 90% success!

And we all saw, with our own eyes  99.9% !!!"

MAY THE LORD GOD OF ISRAEL BE BLESSED!!!

Not only were 99% of the missiles intercepted but of the few that did penetrate Israeli airspace, they were either shot down or landed harmlessly in open spaces. Had even one of the big ballistic missiles, for example, hit a residential area there would have been massive casualties. Around 120 ballistic missiles were fired at Israel. Each one carries a 750 kg  warhead which when it explodes, would fully destroy any structure and kill every person in a 22 meter radius, badly damage structures and cause major injuries in a radius of 75 m.  Imagine if these 120 missiles had hit an Israeli city!

When these missiles are intercepted all the shrapnel from the missile and interceptor must fall to the ground. It can take up to 10 minutes for this to happen. Some of the shrapnel and remains are very large. The photo below shows just the fuel tank (about 70% of length of the missile) of a ballistic missile that landed on the shores of the Dead Sea. The fuel tanks detach from the warhead in the latter stages of its flight.  This is not a fake photo- it gives you some idea of the size of these things!

It is now Tuesday and as I am writing this, it all seems a bit surreal - as if it  happened long ago or in some movie. On Sunday, just hours after the attack,  I went to the supermarket and it was 'business as usual'. Later,  I went to the Garden Center and it was busier than normal. I guess gardening is good therapy, and of course, it is Spring and the weather is glorious. Yesterday, Monday, I went to Ein Kerem (the town where John the Baptist lived), ate at a restaurant and took a walk down the lovely wooded valley. Busloads of tourists were wandering the streets and groups of Israeli hikers passed us by. Life appeared totally normal.

A stroll in Ein Kerem

The Israeli Home Front has been just amazing. I have seen no evidence of panic. Schools were closed for just one day but are now open again - at least those not shut down for the Passover holiday. Life continues somehow in spite of 6 months of war. I was feeling guilty about just continuing on as normal, even eating in restaurants and going for walks in nature, until my pastor, a soldier recently returned from duty, pointed out to me that "that is what we are fighting for". Our brave and selfless men and women soldiers are fighting, risking their lives and futures, so that the rest of us can have a life, even a good life. I no longer feel guilty, just deeply grateful.

Of course the war isn't over yet, and may just be beginning.

We are all wondering what will happen next. Will Israel attack Iran? Will Iran try to attack Israel again? No one knows, There is a lot of speculation, much being driven by a mountain of fake news and propaganda. On Monday night the IDF spokesman quoted the Chief of Staff as saying that Israel will respond to missiles fired into its territory, but he did not say when or in what manner. Iran continues to threaten dire consequences if we do.

I feel that we have never had a better opportunity to deal with the threat of the Iranian regime once and for all. Sadly however, the USA and other western nations have said they will not support an Israeli attack on Iran. This is very short sighted. Do they not understand that Jihadist Iran is not just a threat to Israel but to the whole of western civilization? Why do they persist in thinking they can deal with the problem of Iran diplomatically? Why do they not take seriously the Iranian threats to destroy Israel (which they call the little Satan), then the USA (the big Satan) and then all of Europe. This is not just empty rhetoric. They mean it quite literally. It seems that the Western leaders have no understanding of the mentality of the followers of Jihadist Islam. The Ayatollahs of Iran and their supporters have only one goal - world domination. The Western leaders say they do not want this war to escalate into a regional, or even potentially world-wide war, but they do not realize that it is already a regional war. What will it take for them to wake up?

I think that Iran got a shock on Sunday morning.  Is Iran a paper tiger, or is it part of their strategy to send off their old, unreliable missiles to give the impression of weakness, and to put us off guard, before they send in their newer, more reliable weapons? It is important that we do not underestimate their abilities nor let our guard down.  They and their proxies, Hezbollah, Hamas and the Houthis, still have thousands of missiles they could use against us, and they have powerful allies in Russia and China. Those allies may even have supplied them with nuclear warheads, not to mention that they are very close to producing their own.

It seems that whenever Israel is being attacked in an obvious way, the Western nations are all on our side, but whenever we go onto the offensive in order to protect ourselves (and them!) they turn against us.

U.S. President Biden is spinning so fast back and forth, for and against Israel, he is dizzy and seems barely able to function.  He is playing right into the hands of our enemies, by making us look weak and indecisive. He would do well to take note of his forerunner, George Washington, who wrote, in 1799, "...offensive operations, often times, is the surest, if not the only (in some cases) means of defense". Right now Biden is saying to Israel "Don't" attack Iran. But if Israel would attack, would the US stand by or would it rise up and help? It's anyone's guess.

For a clear and Biblical analysis of the situation today I would recommend this video.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_P3f0oZDeUI

ON THE NORTHERN FRONT.

In the meantime, Hezbollah in Lebanon and Syria continue to fire a steady stream of rockets and UAVs into Israel's northern settlements and military posts. For the last 6 months they have fired an average of 20-30 missiles every day. Around 80,000 residents of the northern border communities have been evacuated and have spent the last 6 months 'camping out' in hotel rooms or with family and friends. Hotels are fun when you are on holiday, but the novelty quickly wears off. Not only is it very stressful having whole families crammed into one room and living shoulder to shoulder with that annoying family next door, these families have lost their means of support. Farms and businesses have had to be abandoned.  Many homes, farms and businesses have been destroyed.

News is now coming in of a Hezbollah attack on a northern Bedouin Arab town, Arab el-Aramshe, in which 18 people were wounded, 4 seriously. This is not the first time Arab towns and villages have been attacked. The Iranian Regime hates Sunni Muslims almost as much as Jews.

ON THE SOUTHERN FRONT

In spite of 6 months of war, and the destruction of 16 of its 24 battalions, Hamas still has the capacity to fire rockets into Israeli territory, although these have decreased to a trickle. Fighting continues in the Strip as Israel mops up the terror cells still operating in the northern and central sector, and prepares to tackle the last bastion of Hamas in, and under, the southern city of Rafah. As preparations are taking place, so are negotiations for the release of the remaining 133 Israeli hostages.

Hamas is making outrageous demands in the negotiations that Israel cannot accept. If we were to do so, it would be tantamount to defeat and surrender. Hamas has no incentive to hand over the hostages, since it is only the presence of the hostages as human shields that is preventing their annihilation at this time. It is also by no means clear how many of the hostages remain alive after 6 months of starvation, torture, sexual abuse and the lack of medical treatment in the dark, dank, filthy underground tunnels.

The US continues to play into the hands of our enemies by telling us not to go into Rafah so as 'to prevent a humanitarian disaster'. Israel has solid, workable plans, supported by the UAE, to evacuate civilians as necessary as our forces move into the city. We don't need the patronizing, not to mention hypocritical, USA telling us how to run this war.

A few days ago, Israel called up two reserve brigades for a renewed Gaza incursion and today there are, as yet unconfirmed, reports that tanks are moving back into the Strip.

Here is a video about the current state of the negotiations.

THE SOUTHEASTERN FRONT

The Houthis of Yemen, another Iranian proxy, joined in the missile attack on Israel on Sunday morning,  and also continue to attack shipping in the Gulf and passing through the Suez Canal.

 THE VEIL

It has been a long time since I have updated my blog. This is because I have been wrestling with my website which I keep fixing, but then it has another problem the next day. I am beginning to suspect sabotage. So for now, I will switch back to using this Google Blog site. My apologies to anyone who has tried and failed to access my website.

Moonrise over Jerusalem 13 July 2022

The main purpose of this blog is to help you to pray more specifically for Israel and with knowledge. I thank you for all your prayers. Normally I focus on current events and try to connect them with Scriptural principles and the fulfillment of prophecy. I will continue to do that, but today I want to remind you of the most important prayer point of all, the need for the salvation of the people of Israel, and of course for all people, Jew, Arab, and Gentile alike. I, like many others, feel that time is running out, for some of us it is because of the natural  aging process and the inevitability of mortality, but for all it is because of the approaching time of the end, when God will judge all mankind. I feel that the current breakdown of society, the wars, the pandemic and the climate emergencies may well be the beginning of the end.

The Apostle Paul said this of the Jews of his time,

But even to this day, when Moses is read, a veil lies on their heart.  Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.

2 Corinthians 3: 15-16

This veil remains to this day, not only covering the eyes of Jewish understanding but over all men and women who refuse to see.

What is the nature of this veil? It is the stubborn refusal to open one's heart to Yeshua. For Jew and Gentile alike, the veil is lifted only when one turns to Yeshua. I was brought up in a sound, Bible-believing church and must have heard the gospel preached many times, but it was not until I got on my knees as a teenager and cried out to God for revelation of the Truth in Yeshua, that I began to see and to understand that revelation in the Holy Scriptures. It is the same for the Jew as for the Gentile. The Jews today have the Scriptures but they do not understand them, nor do they know of God's salvation plan. Their eyes are veiled. They can see only dimly.

God spoke to the Prophet Isaiah saying,  “Go, and tell this people:

‘Keep on hearing, but do not understand;
Keep on seeing, but do not perceive.’

10

“Make the heart of this people dull,
And their ears heavy,
And shut their eyes;
Lest they see with their eyes,
And hear with their ears,
And understand with their heart,
And return and be healed.”

Isaiah 6: 9-10

Even so, Isaiah persevered and spoke God's word to his people, even knowing they would not listen. We must do the same, whether they listen or not.

We might ask, why do they not listen? What is the nature of the veil today?

I think there are two main stumbling blocks for Jews today, one is religion and the other is history.  Religious Jewish rabbis and scholars study the minutiae of the Scriptures through the cloudy lens of the Talmud, that is to say through the interpretations of the rabbis who went before them. They pick apart every nuance and word of these rabbis, and discuss them endlessly, but in so doing, miss the big picture. They seldom study the Bible itself and even ban the reading of certain passages, such as Isaiah 53, which point to Yeshua (Jesus) very clearly. The New Testament is forbidden. Jews who are not religious reject modern Judaism because of its empty ritualism, hypocrisy and the heavy burden of trying to keep the laws laid down by the rabbis, which go far beyond those commanded by God, in spite of God's warning,

“Now, O Israel, listen to the statutes and the judgments which I teach you to observe, that you may live, and go in and possess the land which the Lord God of your fathers is giving you.  You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you."

Deuteronomy 4: 1-2

Jesus said of the religious leaders of his day,

They bind heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with their finger.  They do all their deeds to be seen by men; for they make their phylacteries broad and their fringes long,  and they love the place of honor at feasts and the best seats in the synagogues,  and salutations in the market places, and being called rabbi by men....But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because you shut the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither enter yourselves, nor allow those who would enter to go in... “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you tithe mint and dill and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law, justice and mercy and faith; these you ought to have done, without neglecting the others.  You blind guides, straining out a gnat and swallowing a camel!...“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you cleanse the outside of the cup and of the plate, but inside they are full of extortion and rapacity...“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you are like whitewashed tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but within they are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness.  So you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but within you are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.

 Matthew 23: 4-7, 23-26, 28

Nothing much has changed.

The second reason for the veil is the historical relationship between Christians and Jews.

To most Jews the word Christian is virtually synonymous with the word  anti-semite (Jew-hater), and they can hardly be blamed for such a view. All manner of atrocities have been committed against them in the name of Christ. There were the Crusaders, then the Inquisition and Expulsions, and the pogroms of Europe, just to mention a few. Most Jews believe that Hitler was a Christian, and the ambivalent and passive stand of the Church as Hitler committed genocide against them, is not forgotten. Nor is it sufficient to excuse this as being the acts of those who called themselves Christian but were not. Some of history's greatest men of God, for example Martin Luther, were anti-Semitic. The Church has a lot to answer for in it's treatment of the Jews!  How could it be, that Christians who follow Jesus, himself a Jew, could hate Jews? I believe one of the main reasons is ignorance - of the Scriptures, ignorance of God's plan for the Jews, and above all, ignorance of God's love for His people, Israel.

There is also another component to this veil. For many Jews,  especially here in Israel, Christianity equals Roman Catholicism or Eastern Orthodoxy. They see these big ornate churches full of people bowing down or kissing statues of Mary and Jesus, and they rightly equate this with idolatry.  They cannot separate this from true Biblical Christianity.

Please pray for the lifting of the veil. It is very heavy and thick but there are signs of its weakening. More Jews believe in Yeshua today than at any time in history. There is increasing openness to the gospel, both here in Israel and in the Diaspora. Please pray for all those ministries, individuals and congregations who are faithfully preaching the gospel. One such ministry is called "One for Israel" which is reaching many by means of YouTube videos. There have been several attempts in recent times to shut them down, but so far the courts have upheld the principle of the freedom of religion which we enjoy here in Israel.

I would strongly recommend you watch this video about one such recent attempt

Now for some other news.

Biden's visit

Last week US President Joe Biden visited Israel. During his stay he visited Yad Vashem (the Holocaust Museum and Memorial), appeared at the Opening of the Maccabiah Games (the Jewish Olympics), viewed Israel's Iron Dome and the new laser-based antimissile system, and held meetings with Israeli and Palestinian leaders. Prior to his arrival a senior Israeli official told reporters that Biden's trip to Israel would be an "unprecedented opportunity to change dynamics in the Middle East" (1). There was a lot of hype but the results of his visit have been somewhat disappointing.  It was very low key.  A document entitled " The Jerusalem Declaration on the US-Israel Strategic Partnership" was signed. This document reiterates the bond between Israel and the US and commits both countries to 'use all elements of national power' to keep Iran from obtaining a nuclear bomb (2). It said,

"Consistent with the longstanding security relationship between the United States and Israel and the unshakeable US commitment to Israel’s security, and especially to the maintenance of its qualitative military edge, the United States reiterates its steadfast commitment to preserve and strengthen Israel’s capability to deter its enemies and to defend itself by itself against any threat or combination of threats" (3).

Though not a strong promise of military cooperation in the event of war, nor a NATO-like treaty, it does send the message that the USA is still a player in the Middle East.

While in Jerusalem, Biden also visited the Augusta Victoria Hospital in East Jerusalem and donated to it $US100 million, saying it was "part of our commitment to support health and dignity [for] the Palestinian people" (4)This was the first time that a US president has set foot in East Jerusalem, outside the Old City.  This is being regarded here as a political statement by the US administration recognizing Palestinian ties to East Jerusalem. Afterwards Biden also met with  Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in Bethlehem. Initially the two leaders sought to issue a joint statement that would highlight the areas of agreement regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. However, Abbas' insistence that such a statement would have to include recognition of East Jerusalem as the capital of the future Palestinian state made it impossible for Biden to agree, since it would violate the proclamation signed by Trump that Jerusalem is Israel's capital (4).  In the end both leaders issued separate statements.

Just hours before Biden flew out to visit Saudi Arabia, the Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation said it was announcing a decision "to open the Kingdom's airspace for all air carriers that meet the requirements of the Authority for overflying" (5), thus opening its airspace to all flights in and out of Israel, and cutting flight length to the far east destinations such as India, Thailand, Australia and New Zealand by around 3 hours.  Biden nearly undid all the progress being made in Saudi - Israeli relations by making a statement that implied this opening of the airspace was the result of Saudi - Israeli -US negotiations, thus demonstrating his tenuous grasp of Middle Eastern sensibilities. The Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, consequently denied that any such negotiations with Israel are taking place. Israel and Saudi Arabia have no diplomatic relations, and the Kingdom does not recognize Israel as a state.

Biden's statement as issued is below:

"Saudi Arabia’s historic decision to open its airspace for all civilian planes, including those flying to and from Israel, is an important step towards building a more integrated and stable Middle East region.  While this opening has long been discussed, now, thanks to months of steady diplomacy between my Administration and Saudi Arabia, it is finally a reality. Today, I will be the first president of the United States to fly from Israel to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. As we mark this important moment, Saudi Arabia’s decision can help build momentum toward Israel’s further integration into the region, including with Saudi Arabia. I will do all that I can, through direct diplomacy and leader-to-leader engagement, to keep advancing this groundbreaking process" (6).

Personally I feel that Biden's visit was something of a non-event and not worth the millions of dollars spent on his visit and the disruption to life in Israel, especially here in Jerusalem. He came with a retinue of hundreds of staff, security personnel and journalists. On one occasion a cavalcade of some 60 vehicles, which he had brought with him from the US, transported him and his retinue a mere 400 m from the King David Hotel to the Waldorf Astoria Hotel (7). He also brought with him two presidential helicopters and six black hawk helicopters, which begs the question of why he could not have flown to Jerusalem in a helicopter. Instead, the main highway from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem was closed for several hours on two days and many internal Jerusalem roads were also closed during his stay, even for pedestrian traffic. This all caused massive traffic jams everywhere, and much disruption to normal life and commerce.  People could not get to work, children could not get to school and normal life here was put on hold.

Russia and Iran

Meanwhile Russia's aggression against Ukraine grinds on, now into its 6th month. Yesterday (23 July) two missiles struck the port of Odessa, and two others landed in the sea nearby, less than 24 hours after Russia signed an agreement not to target ports, and to allow the clearance of mines, so that the millions of tons of wheat shipments trapped in Ukraine could be exported.  Russia, of course, denied responsibility for the missile attacks. But who else??? The EU and the UN strongly condemned the attack. The UN secretary general said the grain deal signed by Russia, Ukraine and Turkey was imperative, and a UN spokesperson said that "these products are desperately needed to address the global food crisis and ease the suffering of millions of people in need around the globe" (7).

Israel imports 90% of its wheat from abroad and about 50% of that comes from Russia and 30% from Ukraine. So far we have not felt the shortage thanks to the fact that our government has a large stockpile stored for emergency use, but this will not last many months. Soon we may have to start tightening our belts - literally.

Both Ukraine and Russia are important trading partners for Israel. Al-Monitor (9) summarized the trade situation thus, "Based on annual trade figures by the Ministry of Economy and Industry, Israeli exports of goods and services to Russia amount to $1 billion per year, while imports from Russia come to $2.5 billion. Most of the Russian imports consist of fuel, minerals and gemstones, particularly diamonds. Israel’s major exports to Russia consist of agricultural products (26%), machinery and medical and optical equipment (41%), and chemicals. Half of Israel’s wheat imports originate in Russia, while another 30% come from Ukraine. Russia also provides Israel with a significant part of the coal used to power the country’s electrical stations. Israel gets the coal for a relatively low price, too

Israeli trade with Ukraine is significantly less than that with Russia, amounting to under $800 million per year (the 2021 figures are still incomplete). Some 80% of that is imports, especially wheat and other agricultural products".

As the war continues to progress Israel's relations with Russia are deteriorating putting our economy at great risk.  A special task force of senior officials representing several Israeli government ministries has been tasked with assessing Israel's current stockpiles of wheat, coal and oil, in order to ensure that no real shortages occur.  Alternative sources of supply are also being sought and negotiated.

Offsetting this to an extent is the economic boost resulting from the selling of our natural gas to the EU as they try to wean themselves from dependence on Russia. The amount we can sell to Europe is currently limited by the lack of a direct pipeline. Our natural gas is being piped to Egypt where it is liquefied and shipped by tanker to Europe. This limits the quantity we can export. Though a pipeline to Europe is planned, it will take years to construct.

Also of concern that, as a result of western sanctions against it, Russia is now turning to Iran for support and trade, in what The Hindu (news report) dubbed a 'coalition of the sanctioned' (10). Just days after Biden's visit to the Middle East, Russian President Vladimir Putin travelled to Teheran where he met with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, and President Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey.  Prior to Putin's arrival in Teheran, Russia and Iran signed a  "$40 billion energy memorandum of understanding where Russia’s Gazprom would work with the National Iranian Oil Company in developing energy fields and building LNG projects and pipelines" (10).  The US has also claimed that Russia is seeking to purchase armed drones for deployment in its war against Ukraine. With Erdogan, Putin discussed the situation in Syria and the export of wheat from Ukraine.

As Russia continues its war in Ukraine and courts relationships with Iran, Syria and Hezbollah, the relationship between Russia and Israel is beginning to unravel. Earlier this month, Russia ordered the Jewish Agency to shut down all its operations inside Russia. The Jewish Agency works closely with Israeli governmental agencies to assist Jews wanting to make aliyah (immigrate) to Israel. This is creating a diplomatic crisis. Israeli officials who wanted to go to Russia to discuss this issue were denied visas.  Since the outbreak of the war with Ukraine there has been an upsurge in Jews making aliyah from both Ukraine and Russia, but even though thousands of others in Russia have completed their paperwork, they have not yet been able to leave because of the difficulty of obtaining flights. Many international airlines have stopped flying to and from Russia because of the sanctions. A senior source in Russia's Jewish community told the Jerusalem Post that " People from the Jewish community have been feeling the Iron Curtain settling on them, and they fear the won't be able to escape the country". Another source said that "a number of Jews have said that the Russian authorities are trying to arrest them and that they fear for their lives" (11).

For more on the breakdown of relations between Russia and Israel I would recommend you watch this video which explains it very clearly and in prophetic context;

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hYwvAK7GaLE&t=446s

Since the outbreak of the civil war in Syria in 2011, Israel has carried out hundreds of attacks on Hezbollah and Iranian targets in Syria. Though Russia is aligned with the Assad regime in Syria, Iran and Hezbollah, it cooperates with Israel to avoid Russian troops and bases from being inadvertently hit. It is very important for Israel to be able to continue these strikes in Syria in order to prevent the arming of Hezbollah with precision missiles supplied by Iran.

Today (26/07) Hezbollah's leader in Lebanon, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, boasted once again that "All land and sea targets of Israel are in the range of Hezbollah missiles", and that Hezbollah "has the ability to prevent Israel or companies from extracting gas from the Karish gas field" (12).  Earlier this month (02/07) Hezbollah fired 3 Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (drones) at the Karish Gas Field, which it claims belongs to Lebanon. One of the drones was shot down by an Israeli F16 fighter jet and the other two by missiles fired from a Navy ship (13). The Hezbollah leader today also said that if the Karish Gas Field begins production in September, as is planned, "we will have a problem".

Israel is having to deal with a new kind of weapon, drones. Drone warfare is now a reality. Nasrallah also boasted today that "we have drones that can evade the enemy; a number of drones in recent years entered parts of the Galilee and returned without being shot down” (14). Israel, too, has drones of course and last week the IDF announced that it has used drones to attack targets in Syria. Israel has also developed a laser-based antimissile system, called Iron Beam, that can identify and shoot down drones, such as those used by Hamas in Gaza. This is a 5th level of anti-missile defense which can also shoot down rockets, missiles and mortars fired from a short range (up to 7km), which is too close for the other defense systems to deal with.

Iran continues to enrich uranium with the intention of making a nuclear bomb. According to the International Atomic Energy Agency Iran now has sufficient enriched uranium to make a bomb (15). It now has around 43 kg of uranium enriched to 60%. Though some of this would be lost during further enrichment to the 90% needed for a bomb, the IAEA considers it to be enough to make an explosive device. Iran denies its intention to make a bomb but there is no peaceful use for enriched uranium over 4%. These 'facts on the ground' make any return to the the 2015 nuclear agreement impossible. Under that agreement Iran was not permitted to enrich uranium above 4%. Consequently the stalled negotiations to restore the agreement are doomed.

Israel's Government Collapses AGAIN!

On July 1 Yair Lapid was sworn in as Interim Prime Minister after Naftali Bennet stepped down and the Knesset (Parliament) was dissolved. Bennet's government had survived a year, far longer than anyone really expected. In my opinion his government was doing a fairly good job given the circumstances, but his coalition had a majority of only one seat in the Knesset and when one person walked out the government was no longer viable. New elections (our 5th in 4 years!!) are scheduled for the 1st of October.

Summer in Israel

Fire on the outskirts of Mevaseret, 8 June 2022

Summer is truly upon

us in Israel- hot, dry

and hosting millions of jellyfish in the sea. So far, we have escaped the extreme heat waves, and the consequent wildfires, afflicting the countries around us, Europe, Asia and North America. We did have one fire that threatened Mevaseret but it was controlled before it entered the town. I feel like we are living in a little bubble of blessing. Please pray this will continue. The schools are out, the children are in summer camps and many families are travelling abroad after more than 2 years of confinement because of the Pandemic. The tourists are also beginning to return. This, of course, is resulting in chaos at the airports, just like in other parts of the world. Ben Gurion Airport authorities say that they are short 1300 staff and this is resulting in long queues and a mountain of lost luggage.

The airport is not the only industry suffering from a lack of labor. Many industries that laid off staff during the Pandemic and now unable to resume normal operations due to a lack of staff. The unemployment rate stands at 3.3%, the lowest ever, and down from the 25% at the height of the lockdowns. Where did all the workers go? I think many decided to take the opportunity of the lockdowns to retrain and get better paid jobs, or open their own small businesses.

The Covid Pandemic is not over but, in general, people are behaving as if it is. We had a 6th wave of infections in June and July which reached an infection rate of over 14,000 per day at its peak, but it has now receded to around 6,000 as of yesterday. In Israel, as in other countries, there is a kind of pandemic-fatigue and most people are just ignoring all precautions and getting on with life. We are adjusting to a 'new normal' where we are learning to live with the virus amongst us. Of course those who fall ill, especially those with serious symptoms, are not so blasé. Deaths are still occurring. As of yesterday the official death toll due to the virus in Israel stands at 11,300 including the 9 that died that day.

Sunset over the Mediterranean from Mikmoret with one of Israel's gas rigs on the horizon.16 June 2022

When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people,  if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.  Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to prayer made in this place.
